University of Georgia Smoking and Tobacco Policy

Smoking and tobacco use is prohibited on the entire campus of the University of Georgia including the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel.

This policy includes:

  • All buildings
  • Indoor and outdoor areas
  • Recreational areas
  • Athletic facilities
  • Lawns
  • University sidewalks
  • Parking lots
  • All vehicles – private or public

Prohibited products include;

  • Cigarettes, cigars and pipes
  • All forms of smokeless tobacco
  • Clove cigarettes
  • Any smoking device that uses tobacco such as hookahs or simulates the use of tobacco such as electronic cigarettes

Athens-Clarke County Smoking Ordinance

The Athens-Clarke County Smoking Ordinance prohibits smoking in all Athens-Clarke County government facilities, including parks; all enclosed public places within Athens-Clarke County; and all enclosed areas within places of employment. Visit the link provided to review exceptions.

A person who violates this ordinance shall be guilty of an offense and, upon conviction, shall be punished by a fine of not less than $100.00 nor more than $500.00.
